4th Pan African Conference of AMARC Africa Reinforces Community Radio Networks in Africa

Abidjan, 30 April, 2009. 147 Community Radio stakeholders from more than 30 countries gathered in Abidjan, Côte d’ivoire from 27-30 April, for the 4th Pan African Conference. They analized the challenges to development and the situation of CR in Africa and defined actions for “increasing the effectiveness of Community Radio in Poverty Reduction, Good Governance and Climate Change Adaptation”. The Conference ended today with the adoption of the Abidjan Declaration, the election of a new Board of Directors, the adoption of amendments to the AMARC Africa Constitution; and force lines for the strategic plan of AMARC Africa for 2009-2013. New Voices Without Frontiers 24 hours Broadcast Campaign Against Discrimination

AMARC Calls the Senegal Government to Lift Sanctions Against Community Radios

Montreal, 17 March, 2009. The regulatory body, Conseil National de Régulation de l’Audiovisuel (CNRA), ordered last Saturday and Sunday, the sealing off of the transmitters of 3 community radios : Radio Oxyjeunes, Radio Afia and Radio Djolof which broadcast respectively from the working class neighborhoods of Pikine and Grand–Yoff in the capital city Dakar and from Liguère, a rural city in the north east of the country.
